Gifts are a great way to show that special someone in your life how much they mean to you. Knowing what to get and how much to spend on your partner, however, can bring its own challenges.

How do other cities fare when it comes to what they’re willing to spend on their partner? Wondering if you spend more or less than the UK average? We’ve got the answers to these questions and more!

We have compared the average gift budget of UK cities when it comes to buying a present for a partner on Christmas, Valentine’s Day, anniversaries and birthdays. How well has your city done?

The Most Generous City For Gifts

Which city takes the title for the most generous when it comes to spending on their partner across these four occasions? Here are the overall results.

According to our findings, Belfast has taken the top spot for the most generous city when it comes to spending money on gifts for your partner across these four occasions, spending a total average of £465.36. This is 53% more than the UK average!

The data also found that the people of Plymouth spend the least on gifts for their partner, coming in at a total average of £216.49. As expected, those on the top ten list mainly consisted of larger cities. It was surprising to see the likes of larger cities such as Manchester and Birmingham missing out on the top five - this could be down to higher costs of living, which may mean that they have less disposable income.

Methodology

  • To find out what the most generous city was, we used data from the gifting calculator on Money.co.uk, which surveyed the spending habits of people according to different occasions and who they were buying for.
  • We segmented the data, specifically by what people spend on their partner for Christmas, Valentine’s Day, birthdays and anniversaries.
  • We also included how far away each city was from the UK average and expressed this as a percentage figure.
